Post Graduate Programme-PGDM

The two-year Post-Graduate Programme in Management (PGP-PGDM) is a full-time residential course.

The diploma in management at the Post-Graduate level has a two-tier structure: it consists of a core curriculum (compulsory credit courses and compulsory non-credit courses), a summer internship (compulsory industry training between first and second year) and elective courses (optional courses in the second year). The first year is committed to developing business fundamentals through compulsory courses spanning the areas of economics, finance, marketing, operations, systems and organizational behaviour. The second year offers a plethora of electives in different functional areas that students can choose based on their desired area of pursuit. Students aspiring to delve deeper into topics can undertake term papers under faculty supervision.

Academic Eligibility for PGP-PGDM

A candidate must hold a Bachelor’s Degree, with at least 50% marks or equivalent CGPA [45% in case of the candidates belonging to Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST) and Persons with Disability (PWD) categories], awarded by any of the Universities incorporated by an Act of the central or state legislature in India or other educational institutions established by an Act of Parliament or declared to be deemed as a University under Section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956, or possess an equivalent qualification recognized by the Ministry of HRD, Government of India. The percentage of marks obtained by the candidate in the bachelor’s degree would be calculated based on the practice followed by the university/institution from where the candidate has obtained the degree. In case a candidate is awarded grades/CGPA instead of marks, the conversion of grades/CGPA to percentage of marks would be based on the procedure certified by the university/ institution from where bachelor’s degree has been obtained. In case the university/ institution does not have any scheme for converting CGPA into equivalent marks, the equivalence would be established by dividing the candidate’s CGPA by the maximum possible CGPA and multiplying the result with 100. Candidates appearing for the final year of bachelor’s degree/equivalent qualification examination and those who have completed degree requirements and are awaiting results can also apply. If selected, such candidates will be allowed to join the programme provisionally, only if he/she submits a certificate latest by June 30, 2017 from the Principal/Registrar of his/her College/Institute (issued on or before June 30, 2017) stating that the candidate has completed all the requirements for obtaining the bachelor’s degree/equivalent qualification on the date of the issue of the certificate.

A candidate who has not received his/her graduation results at the time of registration will have to produce certificates and mark sheets in original together with the photocopies as soon as the respective University/Institute publishes the results, but NOT LATER THAN DECEMBER 31, 2017, failing which his/her registration as a student of IIM Calcutta will be automatically cancelled and he/she will be required to withdraw from the PGP-PGDM forthwith. Any candidate who submits University Mark sheets which do not clearly indicate that he/she has passed the Bachelor’s Degree course or equivalent, and also submits Provisional Certificate from an affiliated College/Institute would, in addition, be required to produce an authorization certificate from the University stating that such an affiliated College/Institute is authorized/empowered to issue such a certificate on behalf of the University.

IIM Calcutta may verify eligibility at various stages of the selection process. Applicants should note that the mere fulfilment of minimum eligibility criteria will not ensure consideration for shortlisting by IIM Calcutta.

Criteria for short listing and final selection of PGP-PGDM candidates for 2017-2019 Batch

A. Short-listing for Personal Interview (PI)

Candidates will be short listed on the basis of CAT 2016 score, past academic performance, and other criteria provided below.

Stage 1 short-listing comprises candidates achieving the minimum section-wise and overall percentile in CAT 2016 as per Table 1 below:

Candidates securing the above mentioned minimum percentile in each category in CAT 2016 will only be considered for calculation of their composite score in Stage II (described below). Please note that the actual section-wise and overall percentile of a short-listed candidate may be much higher than the above mentioned minimum percentile as the short-listing for PI is done on the basis of a composite score.

Stage II: Calculation of Composite Scores for Short-listing for PI stage

The Composite Score is calculated on the basis of CAT 2016 score, Class X and Class XII aggregate percentages, and gender diversity factor..

Method of allotting points for Class X and Class XII percentages of marks based on aggregate scores is given in Table 2 below:

*(For computing the percentage of marks obtained in Class X and Class XII, the aggregate marks of all subjects that appear in the mark sheet/grade sheet would be considered irrespective of whether the Board considers them for calculation of percentage).

The composite score is calculated based on Table 3.The composite cut-off score is used for short-listing the candidates for the PI stage in each category. The number of candidates short-listed for the PI stage would be the discretion of the institute and would depend on the batch size of 2017-19.

Candidates based on their composite score will be called for the PI stage of the selection process that would comprise a Personal Interview (PI) and a Written Ability Test (WAT).

B. Criteria for Final Selection for PGP- PGDM (Batch 2017-19)

A candidate’s final score for selection is calculated on the basis of Table 4. Table 4 indicates the criteria and their weights to be used for the final selection for PGP-PGDM for the 2017-19 batch.

For work experience, a maximum of Four points will be awarded depending on the length of service as on January 31, 2017 (Please refer Table 5). Only managerial work experience after graduation will be considered. Training/Project work/work done as an integral part of curricular requirement will not be considered.

The final selection list will be based on merit in each category; minimum qualification on the above mentioned criteria would not automatically qualify the candidate for admission into IIM Calcutta.

Reservation Policy:

IIM Calcutta will apply Government of India reservation policy for admission to Central Educational Institutions (CEIs).

Any dispute concerning Admissions for the PGP Batch 2017-19 would be subject to jurisdiction of the competent courts within the territorial jurisdiction of city of Kolkata Only.
